Soi Dog Foundation

Soi is a Thai word for Street or Lane, hence Soi Dogs are street dogs. In many Asian countries there are lots of street dogs most are in poor health, under fed and breed uncontrolled. Many countries have rabies making a bite from one of these dogs a serious problem. The Soi Dog Foundation was founded 7 years ago and is based in Phuket.

Their aim is to:

Improve the life of these animals, by sterilization to control the numbers.
Providing medical help for ill or injured dogs.
Housing for those dogs that cannot be returned to the streets.
Finding new homes for these dogs

Many of Phukets dogs have been ill treated and are brought in suffering for machetti or gunshot wounds. Finding new homes for these dogs is also a high priority, many have been adopted locally whilst other have found homes in distant countries. Cindy and I are volunteers at Soi Dog every Tuesday, we walk about 50 dogs, get lots of kisses and come home exhausted.

It is such a delight to see a dog off to the airport to start a new life somewhere else, this Tuesday it was Cappuccino off to Canada to his new home.

Please take some time to visit the Soi Dog site and read some of the stories, see the before and after shots. Some animal come in looking as if they will never survive but weeks later they are happy and healthy.
